One evening, Lizzy was folding laundry in her bedroom when she heard Trav’s voice in the nursery. She was curious about his and Davy’s interaction and didn’t want to interrupt, so she peeked around the doorframe into the baby’s room.

Travis lifted him until they were face-to-face. His hands were so big he could easily hold Davy up with his thumbs hooked under the baby’s tiny arms and his long fingers supporting the back of his head.

The sudden urge to cry surprised her. Watching the two of them together was tapping into a place inside of her that she’d thought could wait for years until after she’d traveled and sung in the opera. Then she could have a family of her own.

Was seeing the world more important than starting a family? She was starting to question her plans. Maybe her desire to see the world was only because it was something that had been denied her.

Davy kicked his skinny little legs, one striped sock dangling and about to slip off his foot.

“Let’s have a chat, tiny dude.” Travis’s voice made the baby start kicking again.

Lizzy couldn’t wait to hear what he had to say to Davy. Maybe she’d gain some more insight into the cowboy who visited her dreams each night.
